Le Valeure Cottage

We are recognised for sensitive works to period houses, for our expertise and for our knowledge of Listed Buildings.

The challenge was to creatively renovate an SSI Cottage while linking to an extension over remains of the attached Barn to form a family home within a restricted budget.

The Cottage was in poor repair not having been lived in for several decades. There was even less remaining of the Barn, just the ground floor walls. The previous first floor tin shed structure had been off in a gale some years ago!

We discovered an ancient kitchen fireplace complete with brick bread oven in the Cottage but this prevented linking the Cottage ad Barn together at ground floor level. Our solution was to reinstate the Barn’s upper floor with a new lightweight timber framed Lounge extension with large picture windows looking south over the verdant garden. The natural link was from this Lounge therefore the Cottage, with it’s small windows, became the ‘bedroom wing’ with the Barn containing living space including a large kitchen & day-room on the ground floor.

We paid close attention to details including use of traditional lime render, mortar pointing and caseine milk paintwork. Careful control of costs balanced with functionality has given our Client an outstanding family home with which our Client is absolutely delighted.
